The Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, has acquired paintings by Louis Gauffier (1762 to 1801) and Henri-Joseph Harpignies (1819 to 1916).
Gauffier's Ulysses Recognises Achilles among the Daughters of Lycomedes was painted in 1791 and shown at the Paris Salon that year. It belongs to the mythological subjects on which he built his reputation.
Harpignies's View of the Island of Capri, of 1853, was the first painting he showed at the Salon, and reflects the taste for Italian subjects among French painters in the middle of the nineteenth century.
