Robilant+Voena is pleased to announce that the Self Portrait as Saint Catherine of Alexandria by Artemisia Gentileschi has been acquired by the National Gallery, London.
The painting was found by Marco Voena and Fabrizio Moretti at auction in Paris in 2017, its attribution long forgotten. Artemisia shows herself as the fourth-century martyr Saint Catherine of Alexandria, and the picture joins a small number of works by women in the National Gallery's collection. It is the first painting by Artemisia to enter the Gallery.
