A masterpiece by Jacopo da Ponte, called Bassano, has been acquired by the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa

Robilant+Voena is pleased to announce that a masterpiece by Jacopo da Ponte, called Bassano, has been acquired by the Musei Civici di Bassano del Grappa. The Portrait of a Man in Armour, painted in about 1560, was the centrepiece of an exhibition at the Museo Civico in 2022 and 2023, and its acquisition brings the picture to the town from which the painter took his name.

The purchase follows a long campaign for its return, led by Barbara Guidi, director of the Musei Civici, and by the mayor, Elena Pavan, whose persistence secured the outcome.
